Chris Karsten
Biographical info
Chris Karsten was born on 9 November 1947 in Morgenzon in Mpumalanga. He matriculated at Hoogenhout High School in Bethal and completed a BA degree in Afrikaans and Dutch and Psychology at the University of Pretoria (1970).
He started his career as a journalist at Die Volksblad, and later worked at Beeld and Rapport newspapers.
Chris has written two books for children, namely Floris sapiens (1985) and Die jokkie wat met perde kon praat. He received the Sanlam Prize for Youth Literature (Silver) for the former. His first novel, Frats, appeared in 2007 and received the ATKV Prize for Prose for it.
As journalist he was involved with many of the stories that later appeared in his True Crime series, such as Bad kids: South African Youngsters who Rob and Kill, Headline Murders: Slayings which Shocked South Africa, and Killer Women: Fatal South African Females.
He wrote a biography of Charlize Theron in 2009 (Charlize: Ek leef my droom) and (Charlize: Life’s One Helluva Ride).
Chris published a crime thriller, Seisoen van sonde, in 2009, which was followed by three more, namely the Abel trilogy.
Chris is retired and currently living in Canada.
