Gail van Onselen
Biographical info

Gail van Onselen was born in Melville, Johannesburg.

She first completed a BA at Wits, followed by an LLB. She then completed Practical Law School, where she met her husband Paul, and went on to do articles and be admitted as an attorney. During her articles Gail also completed a Psychology Honours degree through Unisa. After her articles, she lectured full time and headed up the Law Department at Allenby Campus, Bramley.

Lecturing allowed Gail to indulge her other passion – writing – and during this time she began working as a freelance journalist, and was published in various magazines such as True Love, Essentials and Fair Lady.

After several years at the Advertising Standards Authority, Gail has recently been appointed as a Director at Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs where she will practice law under her maiden name, Gail Schimmel.

Gail lives in Craighall Park with her attorney husband, Paul and their two dogs and two cats.

Claude and Millie is her first children’s book. Her first novel, Marriage Vows, was published by Kwela in 2008 under the name Gail Schimmel.
