Fanie Olivier
Biographical info

Stephanus Petrus (Fanie) Olivier was born in Pretoria on June 23, 1949. He matriculated at Port Natal High School in Durban. After matric he furthered his studies at the University of Stellenbosch where he obtained an MA Degree in 1972. He obtained the degree Litt Drs in Literary theory at the University of Utrecht and in 1985 the degree D Litt from the University of Potchefstroom (under TT Cloete).

He worked as journalist, as teacher in Graaff-Reinet and Louis Trichardt, as well as lecturer at the Universities of Natal, Durban-Westville and Venda. Presently he is professor in Afrikaans and South African Studies at the School for English at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland.

His first book of poetry, Gom uit die sipres, was published in 1971.
