Saartjie 15: Saartjie se prys | Children's Fiction
Bettie Naudé
Human & Rousseau
Saartjie reads about a campaign in America where school children changed the lives of the people around them by simply being more polite and thoughtful. She decides that her gang should follow this great example but her friends are not nearly as keen as she is. When the tomboy finally convinces them to play along everyone is suspicious, especially the boys. Are the Three Mosquitoes up to mischief again?
Saartjie’s parents are invited to a garden party at the state president’s residence. Her mom makes her a beautiful dress and her dad gives her money to buy a special handbag. Saartjie trawls the shops for the bag of her dreams but she cannot find it anywhere – until a welfare organisation asks her school to raise money for cripple children. The prize for the girl who collects the most money is exactly the handbag our heroine wants so desperately and Saartjie eagerly starts to raise money. She even organises a festival that involves almost the entire suburb she lives in!
