A reissue of one of this author's best-known novels, first published in 1972. The UK and USA editions in the mid seventies, with the title Promised Land, received a lot of attention and praise. A film based on this novel was released in 2002.

The story: George Neethling who has been living in Europe since he was five years old, comes to South Africa after his parents' death to visit the family farm. He finds nothing but ruins, and while he is staying with people on a neighbouring farm he becomes aware of the underlying tensions in this isolated community and their fear of their new rulers.
