A lonely man, haunted by a past he can’t recall, plans to die as a volunteer for euthanasia. He leaves his wretched little attic room and walks past the door of his neighbour, the prostitute, and her little daughter, who sometimes came to listen to his records. He walks through the city, and on his way to the clinic he visits the library one last time. And then, unexpectedly, he gets caught up in a series of events at a gathering where masked guests indulge in an orgy, events which lead to an almost phantasmagorical experience.
A psychological thriller of a startling originality, in which man’s deepest subconscious is explored. It is also a poignant novel about the pathos of humanness.
