Claudie Thompson’s story begins in 1982, when she was three years old and learned, for the first time, the difference between right and wrong. Claudie has six brothers and one sister. Only Theuns is her ‘true’ brother though – that is, they share the same mother and father. Her mother has two sons with her father’s best friend, Koos Diago. And her father has three illegitimate children, one with her mother’s sister, Soekie.
Claudie didn’t have the most auspicious beginning to her life, seeing as her mother tried to abort her by drinking a bottle of brandy and repeatedly jumping off the kitchen table.
