Die 18-44 trilogie | General Fiction
Etienne Leroux
Human & Rousseau
Three sophisticated satires from one of the giants of Afrikaans literature. In all three novels the narrator is a “hack”. (The author reminds us that the hack/ the author, like the gypsies, sees himself as a magician and a visionary...) The novels all have an intriguing mythical framework.
18-44 is about the correspondence between the 44-year old hack, and an 18-year old student whom he hasn’t met. Isis Isis Isis is about the hack’s journey in Europe where he meets several women. The focus in Na’va is on the funeral of the hack’s nephew who committed suicide.
