Donker liefde - my verhouding met heroïen | True Stories
Anoux Venter
Human & Rousseau
Anoux Venter was never abused, raped or rejected, and grew up in a loving and well-off family. Yet she chose heroin as her deadly companion on a road of desperation and self-destruction.
Here Anoux maps out her love affair with heroin and the devastation that it caused in her life and in those of the people she loved. It is a brutally honest look at why she made the choices that she made and the lengths to which she went to maintain her habit and hide it from her family and her employers. She and her long-time boyfriend and companion share their habit, repeatedly pulling each other back into the dark and intimate world of their mutual addiction. Anoux finally decides to break the addiction to save her own life, but she must pass close to death during her period of “cold turkey” before she can start to rebuild her life.
Anoux has a genuine voice that tackles an important social issue in an open and honest manner without seeking to preach or to belittle those who struggle with addiction. Her testimony is both a warning and a message of hope and survival.
