Trompie's gang is being threatened – by a girl!
Their Big Chief and master schemer is hopelessly smitten and spends his days dreaming about his new-found love. His hair is neat, his shirt is tucked in and his socks are pulled up. The gang calls a special meeting to discuss this matter – how dare Trompie prefer a girl's company to theirs? However, their leader won't be dictated to. But fortunately for his gang he soon finds out how expensive it is to have a girlfriend and ditches her after a school dance. Now the gang can do things together again, like stealing peaches and listening to ghost stories.
The annual interschool athletics day is around the corner and Trompie desperately wants a pair of spikes so that he can run like a true winner. He manages to pull off a complicated barter with one of his classmates and on the big day he first has to lay into an opponent from another school who tripped him in a race before he can walk away with his honour intact.
