Leroux’s trilogy is set on a wine estate in the Cape in early 1960s South Africa. The first novel is the account of a young man’s initiation into the bizarre world of the Welgevonden estate and the complexities of good and evil; the second novel is a murder mystery which turns into a deeply disturbing tragedy; and the third novel is a blend of comic novel and metaphysical thriller. Published in the sixties also in the UK and USA under the titles Seven Days at the Silbersteins, One for the devil and The Third Eye.
