Vuur op die horison (ePub) | General Fiction
Engela van Rooyen
Vuur op die Horison, has been compared with Gone with the wind, Anna Karenina and even War and Peace.
The events extend from 1846 to 1903, centring around the Anglo-Boer War. The novel spans continents and generations as the reader is swept along from South Africa’s gold and diamond fields to Victorian England, Matabeleland, Portugal, the islands of India and stark Argentina.
The Viljoen family from Grootverlangen near the Magaliesberg is central to the story, as is the Dalmain family in England. While Frans Viljoen returns to the Transvaal from the hunting ground of Rhodesia to take up arms, Michael Dalmain, Young Lord and noble heir, also finds himself travelling by sea to the remote southern tip of Africa. They both have a past of profound personal intrigue. They are familiar with disillusionment, but also with the driving force of patriotism and of an unfulfilled love.
