Peet van Staden
Biographical info

Peet van Staden saw the dismantling of apartheid up close. He didn’t only see the old system taken apart, he saw where in the new system those pieces ended up. That gave him the perfect background for writing a novel like Krake. He was a journalist for 40 years, the last 27 as a senior SABC TV News staffer. He joined the broadcaster as a news writer and became a bulletin editor in 1985, a position he held for more than 13 years. From 1999 to his retirement in 2012 he was the executive producer in charge of Afrikaans TV News. He got his first job in journalism while he was still in high school and spent his university days in the student newspaper office. Subsequently he became a print journalist, covering sports for Die Vaderland and Rapport, eventually becoming the sports editor of Die Transvaler.
