Richard Poplak
Biographical info

Richard Poplak is an award-winning journalist, author, graphic novelist and doggerelist. He is currently a senior writer at Daily Maverick. Richard trained as a filmmaker and fine artist, but can now be found chasing Big Game in Africa, investigating German sub-subcultures in Namibia, bowling in Kazakhstan, racing Mercedes sports sedans in Russia – for a whole bunch of different publications across the world.

His first book was the highly acclaimed Ja, No, Man: Growing Up White in Apartheid-Era South Africa (2007) which was longlisted for the Alan Paton Non-Fiction Award and shortlisted for the University of Johannesburg Literary Award. He has also won Media24’s Best Feature Writing Award and a National Magazine Award in Canada.
