Miguel de Cervantes Biographical info
Cervantes was born in 1547 in a village near Madrid. He was a soldier before he started writing. After being captured by the Moors and held inTunisia as a slave for five years, he was released in 1580 after his family paid a ransom. Twenty difficult years followed while he tried to make a living from writing and it was only in 1605 when the first part of Don Quixote was published that Cervantes achieved fame and success. The second part was published ten years later. Cervantes died in 1616.
